Smart Goals For Your Enterprise
Setting goals for your personal life or business can be difficult or overwhelming. According to dictionary.com, a goal is “ the result or achievement toward which effort is directed.” Instead of creating a list of hopes and dreams, create something more specific, a smart goal. The smart goal framework was created by George T. Doran in the 1980s to help write meaningful objectives for goal setting.
Before focusing your efforts on creating goals, create a vision. Establishing a vision gives clarity across your and is key to aligning your team. Once the vision is set and clear, it’s time to create goals and objectives.
Here’s how to create goals with the smart framework:
Specific
Effective goals are very specific. You want to know the:

What: What is the objective?

Who: Who are the key resources to help achieve the goal?

The end result: What is the final outcome if this goal is achieved?
Measurable
You need quantitative data to measure your goals and track the progress of each goal.
For example, if your goal is to reduce 25% of debt every year, you need a tool to help you track payments against the goal, the frequency of those payments, and the remaining balance.
Attainable
Create goals that are attainable (or achievable). Do not overwhelm yourself with goals that far beyond your reach.
Relevant
Create goals that are relevant to what is important right now.
Timely
You must set a due date. Due dates help minimize or eliminate procrastination and add a sense of urgency to the goals. Try not to space the goal out so far that it is out of sight. On the flip side, don’t run your due dates too close together. This may overwhelm you or bring on unnecessary stress. I focus on 90-day sprints.
Attainable
Create goals that are attainable (or achievable). Do not overwhelm yourself with goals that far beyond your reach.
